Hundreds Attend Trayvon Martin Rally in Downtown OKC

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

Hundreds of Oklahomans flooded Bricktown in what they call a rally for justice for Trayvon Martin. Holding protest signs with bags of skittles taped to them demonstrators say the acquittal of George Zimmerman was a failure on the part of the justice system.

"The justice system failed us, that is what it boils down to," Leon Edwards, a protester said.

17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman back in February of 2012. Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges on July 13th.

"If it would have been a black man killing a white kid, would he have been found guilty?" Edwards asked. Protestors here are calling for a change in Oklahoma's stand your ground law. Stand your ground laws are in the books in more than 20 states.

"I hope it changes a lot of things, the laws, Oklahoma's laws are very racist," Edwards said.

Protesters have gathered in more than 100 cities across the country, calling on the Department of Justice to file a civil rights case against George Zimmerman.
