Man pleads for burglars to return wife's remains

OKLAHOMA CITY -

Police are searching for the person or persons responsible for the burglary of a home on the city's northwest side. Among the items stolen was the remains belonging to the wife of an 80-year-old man.

"I am afraid they probably opened it up and didn't know what they had, and threw it away," Don Wearmouth said.

His wife, Karin Wearmouth, passed away last year, after nearly three decades of marriage. Karin was very fond of Alva, which is where they were going to scatter her ashes, "Probably in the next month or two we were going to take them up and put them there," Don Wearmouth said.

Oklahoma City police say they were called to a home in the 9800 block of Hefner Village road around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. Don Wearmouth says he came home to find his door open. When he went inside, he discovered several things missing, including jewelry, a pistol and money, the most valuable of which are the remains of his wife.

Wearmouth told police he is very upset and hopes to get the remains back as soon as possible, "If it were at all possible, I would certainly appreciate if they could get them back to me or turn them in somewhere," Don Wearmouth said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Oklahoma City Police hotline at 405-235-7300.
