GREG WHITWORTH was born to be an Oklahoma weatherman. His fascination began in second grade when he was riding home on the school bus in Weatherford , Oklahoma , and spotted a tornado. He immediately informed the bus driver, who tried to get all the children home safely; fortunately, they were only 3 blocks away. While Greg was in the storm shelter he began to wonder if his hometown would be destroyed. Thankfully, the tornado missed the city, and Greg’s passion for weather ignited.

He became so enthralled with weather that in the eighth grade in Mustang, Oklahoma , he would post his own forecasts on the chalkboard during his physics classes. When his grandparents passed away, he was given their weather radio so he would always know what the weather was doing. He would sit and listen to the storm chasers on the scanner for hours, yearning to be out there chasing the storms. In 1991, Greg got his opportunity to meet the storm chasers he listened to for so many years when he began visiting the National Weather Service. He also joined the Oklahoma County Emergency Management team and has been an active member ever since. This would mark the beginning of his storm chasing. Witnessing a large tornado near Laverne , Oklahoma , and seeing softball size hail in El Dorado , Kansas , that year created an even greater desire to warn the public and learn more about severe weather. To date he has sighted 16 tornados.

Greg studied at the University of Central Oklahoma where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Oral Communications and Broadcasting. He also majored in Science at Oklahoma City Community College .

Greg began his weather career at KFOR here in Oklahoma City as an intern and graphics producer. An offer to become Weather Producer for KMGH in Denver , Colorado , led him away from the Sooner State to learn more about how the mountains affect our weather, even here in Oklahoma . After enduring a 30 hour shift during a three foot snow storm in Denver in 1997, he decided it was time to head back to the Midwest . He spent the next two and half years working as the morning weathercaster at KHBS/KHOG in Fort Smith , Arkansas . He then moved back to Oklahoma , where he joined The FOX Prime Time News at Nine team as the weekend forecaster. The last two years, Greg has been traveling the eastern half of the United States for Baron’s, a major weather systems developer, educating TV meteorologists and deploying the latest advances in weather radar software, including the FOX-25 storm tracking system.

He is once again proud to be part of the FOX Prime Time News at Nine team pursuing his passion – Oklahoma weather -- and being able to give back to a community he loves so much.
