Local students work on Hollywood film

University of Oklahoma students get a hand up from Hollywood. Fox 25's Kisha Henry shows us they're your typical students-- a full class schedule, multiple jobs, but they're also working on a Hollywood film-- getting an opportunity many people could only dream of.

"This is what I want to do-- making sound for movies," says Erin Brinkworth, a Senior at OU.

The class of students at OU are working on the post-production sound for the film "The Shattering"-- a thriller, loosely based on a true story. "A friend of mine back in LA needed help and sent us the movie, and these kids have been great. They have done incredible work," says Kini Kay, adjunct professor at OU.

"I focused mainly on the background noises, all the ambience. So, when you're outside, you'll hear crickets or an owl," explains Nick Duvarney, OU student.

"It's just hours, and hours, and hours of searching for the right sounds. If you can't find them, you have to create your own," says Brinkworth.

"We replace every foot step," says Kay, explaining the process.

"This is our makeshift gun," says Michael Rymer, another student, showing the combination of wood and metal to Fox 25's Kisha Henry. "There are a lot of gun movements in this movie," he says.

These students spend hours working on sections of the movie that only last minutes-- searching for and re-creating sounds to make the movie pop. "It doesn't even have to be the exact object you're using, as long as you get that sound. That's all you really want," says Rymer. "This is the grass sound," he says, rubbing together shredded pieces of old film.

These students are working hard to create something that many people won't even notice. "All of these little movements, like a hand resting on a table, you don't realize how important it is until it's not there," explains Brinkworth.

"Without it, the movie is just kind of bland," adds Duvarney.

They know this opportunity is rare. "A lot of people just go out to LA and they have no idea what they're doing. They've never really had the experience," says Duvarney.

"Many people are an assistant editor for years before they get a chance to get a credit, and they'll have their name son the tail credits of this movie," says Kay. "They're just like professions. I'm so proud of them," he adds.

Wife guilty in Nichols Hills fire chief slaying
May 22, 2013 00:24 GMT

EL RENO, Okla. (AP) -- A jury in El Reno has convicted Rebecca Bryan of the murder of her husband, Nichols Hills Fire Chief Keith Bryan, and recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole.

Jurors reached the Tuesday verdict after about four hours of deliberation.

The 54-year-old Bryan claimed an intruder had shot her husband, though police found her Ruger pistol in a clothes dryer in their home after the shooting.

The gun was matched to the bullet used to shoot Keith Bryan in 2011 at the couple's Mustang home. Police also found a spent shell casing and a left-handed rubber glove wrapped in a bullet-riddled blanket.

The Oklahoman reports (http://is.gd/mvC6Mi ) Bryan didn't display her emotions when the verdict was read. Her lawyer gave her a hug and told her he was sorry.
