The Internet World is Smaller Than You Think

Forget Six Degrees of Separation with Kevin Bacon, researchers say any two webpages in the world are no more than 19 clicks apart.

This week, the Royal Society, a scientific organization established in 1660, published a paper that has found any website in the world can be connected to another through 19 clicks at most. This research comes out despite the fact that there are billions of pages online.

Albert-László Barabási, a networking theorist in the U.K. and member of the Society used network science to model the Web, finding it to be a ‘small world’ of about a trillion documents connected by relatively short paths.

This research isn't necessarily new. Mashable wrote Monday others have highlighted the 19-click separation in the past, including a 2005 Web site actually called “19clicks.com", which no longer exists.

The connections work the same way as the "Six Degrees" theory works: you may be examining a small city or a larger one, a minimal number of connections is required to link one individual with another, that number is six or less. But just like Six Degrees, not all pages have an equal number of connections. Some pages are better connected than others. The Internet World is Smaller Than You Think

Suspect caught in series of Stillwater robberies
May 23, 2013 07:46 GMT

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Police in Stillwater say they believe a suspect in custody is responsible for a series of store robberies that began in January.

Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said Tuesday that 24-year-old Jackson Pascal Rwezaula is held on complaints for two of the robberies.

The Stillwater News-Press reports (http://is.gd/GLCxxC ) Rwezaula (weh-zahl-uh) refuses to speak to investigators.

Dickerson said the robberies confounded police for months, to the point that the investigation became personal.

Officials say the suspect's face showed up clearly in a security image from one of the robberies and a tipster gave Rwezaula's name.

Police say they recovered disguises and other evidence allegedly linking Rwezaula to the crimes.
