Judge approves Transocean's plea deal in oil spill
By MICHAEL KUNZELMAN and KEVIN MCGILL

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A federal judge has approved Transocean Ltd.'s agreement with the Justice Department to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge and pay $400 million in criminal penalties for its role in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo accepted Transocean's plea and imposed the agreed-upon sentence during a hearing Thursday. The Swiss-based drilling company could have withdrawn from the deal if she had rejected it.
Transocean agreed last month to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of violating the Clean Water Act. The company also agreed to pay $1 billion in civil penalties. A different judge will decide whether to accept that part of the settlement.
Transocean owned the rig Deepwater Horizon, which exploded and sank over BP's Macondo well. The accident killed 11 men.

Suspect caught in series of Stillwater robberies
May 23, 2013 07:46 GMT
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Police in Stillwater say they believe a suspect in custody is responsible for a series of store robberies that began in January.
Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said Tuesday that 24-year-old Jackson Pascal Rwezaula is held on complaints for two of the robberies.
The Stillwater News-Press reports (http://is.gd/GLCxxC ) Rwezaula (weh-zahl-uh) refuses to speak to investigators.
Dickerson said the robberies confounded police for months, to the point that the investigation became personal.
Officials say the suspect's face showed up clearly in a security image from one of the robberies and a tipster gave Rwezaula's name.
Police say they recovered disguises and other evidence allegedly linking Rwezaula to the crimes.
