Enid Prepares for a Wintery Blast
Drivers beware as winter weather is expected across much of Oklahoma.
“I’m traveling from Oklahoma City to Alva tomorrow morning so it’s a little concerning about the bad weather,” said Jennifer Edwards.
And cities expected to get hit the hardest say they’re ready.
“We are on heightened alert for the city of Enid,” said Robinson Camp with the city of Enid Public Works Department. Camp said the department has 8-trucks ready to plow or salt roads as needed.
Camp tells FOX 25, “Whenever it starts sticking then we send out our trucks.”
Camp says workers can pull more trucks and equipment if it needs to but says they are more than prepared. They haven't had to use any of their salt or sand all winter long.
“We are fully stocked and ready to disperse at a moment’s notice.”
And it’s not just in smaller communities like Enid.
“We are fully stocked and ready for whatever comes our way,” said Cole Hackett with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Hackett said it’s the same story in Oklahoma City.
Hackett said Monday, “We have about 70,000 tons of sand and about 85,000 tons of salt.”
ODOT also has about 550-trucks statewide ready to move to harder hit like possibly Enid, if needed.
“We are spending all day today making sure our equipment is up to date making sure everything is ready,” said Hackett.
“We are always prepared in that aspect of it,” said Camp.
City workers would like to remind drivers to stay at least 200 feet from plows and trucks and drive slowly and accordingly.

Fairchild still candidate for new planes
May 22, 2013 15:53 GMT
By NICHOLAS K. GERANIOS Associated Press
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Officials in Washington are expressing disappointment that Fairchild Air Force base was not chosen as the first home of the Air Force's new aerial refueling tankers.
Members of the Kansas congressional delegation announced Wednesday that McConnell Air Force Base in Topeka, Kan., was chosen as the first base to receive the new Boeing-built KC-46A tankers.
Fairchild, the Spokane area's largest single employer, remains a candidate to receive new tankers later.
The new aircraft will replace the aging KC-135 fleet flown by crews, including those at Fairchild, for the past 50 years. The Air Force will base 36 of the new aircraft at McConnell starting in 2016.
Fairchild was finalist for the job, along with bases in North Dakota and Oklahoma.
