Moore Public Schools School Bond Issue
MOORE, OK-- Moore Public Schools is asking voters to vote on a historic 127 million dollar bond issue for school improvements.
School officials say the district has about 23,000 students and continues to grow, which means for space.
"Moore Public schools is the third largest district in the state, only behind Oklahoma City and Tulsa public" says Susan Pierce, Superintendent of Moore Public Schools.
Pierce says this is the biggest bond ever proposed by the district.
It's also the first time a bond has been proposed that would stretch over a five year period.
"We have to respond, to make sure we have adequate facilities for all of our students" says Pierce.
If passed, the school district would get two new elementary schools, one junior high school, and five preschools.
Other projects would include a new band room and practice gym for Southmoore High School, and other improvements to school security at all Moore schools.
If passed, the bond would cost property owners twelve dollars per year, for every 100 thousand dollar in home value.
"We think that's a good investment for 127 million dollars worth of improvements in our schools and community.
Pierce says historically the district sees about a ten percent voter turnout on school bond issues.
The vote is scheduled for February 12th.

Search continues in creek for missing Okla. teen
May 25, 2013 22:59 GMT
KINGFISHER, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities continue to search for a Kingfisher teenager who disappeared after jumping into Uncle John Creek.
Police say 17-year-old Taylor Faine jumped into the creek Thursday and did not resurface. Kingfisher Fire Chief Randy Poindexter told The Oklahoman (http://bit.ly/10s2oB6 ) on Saturday that manmade dams have been built in hopes of finding Faine's body.
Authorities say Faine was swimming with friends in an area where no swimming signs are in place because of dangerous currents in the creek.
