Former Murray Co. Deputy Pleads Guilty in Inmate Attack
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A former Murray County sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty in federal court in Muskogee in connection with an assault on a handcuffed inmate.
Former deputy Craig Billings pleaded guilty Friday to one count of deprivation of rights for violating the civil rights of the inmate who was being booked into the Murray County Jail in October 2011. The 39-year-old Billings was taken into custody and awaits sentencing.
Billings faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, but his attorney Phil Hurst says he has a plea agreement that will result in a significantly lesser punishment. Hurst declined further comment.
Prosecutors maintain Billings tackled the handcuffed victim, grabbed him by the chin and slammed his head on the floor after the inmate verbally offended him.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A preliminary hearing for two brothers accused of killing four women in Tulsa could resume soon.
The Tulsa World reports (http://bit.ly/16X0EnM ) a judge is expected to rule on a request that could determine whether James and Cedric Poore's hearing will resume Friday.
Their hearing stalled Thursday after the defense filed a motion to recuse the judge assigned to the case.
Special Judge Stephen Clark denied the motion, as did Presiding Judge William Kellough.
Kellough is expected to rule on the defense's request for time to appeal on Friday morning.
The Poores are charged with murder and robbery in the January deaths of Misty Nunley, Julie Jackson, Rebeika Powell and Kayetie Melchor. The four women were found tied up and shot in the head.
The Poores have pleaded not guilty.
