Hearing Set for Bartlesville Teen Charged in School Plot
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- A judge has set a Feb. 21 preliminary hearing for an Oklahoma teenager charged with plotting a mass shooting at his high school.
Sammie Eaglebear Chavez appeared via video monitor Friday from the Washington County jail, where he's being held on a $1 million bond. Chavez, who is 18, is accused of plotting to shoot students at the school and detonate bombs to kill police. No one was harmed.
He was arrested the same day as the deadly school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The Tulsa World reports that Chavez did not speak during the court appearance until the very end, when he said, "Thank you." His court-appointed attorney, Jim Conatser, declined to comment.
Assistant District Attorney Will Drake estimated that the preliminary hearing will take two or three days.

Man: Daughter killed in tornado was 'special baby'
May 22, 2013 22:52 GMT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma man whose daughter was killed when a tornado struck Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore says she was his "special baby" who made friends with everyone she met.
Joshua Hornsby's 9-year-old daughter JaNae was among seven children killed when the tornado hit the school Monday afternoon. Officials say 10 children in all were among the 24 people killed in the storm.
Hornsby says he drove to the school after hearing a tornado was headed that way but arrived 10 minutes after it struck. He says he also lost his home.
State officials say the damage estimate from the twister that's been rated an EF5 by the National Weather Service could exceed $2 billion.
