Teacher Accused of Rape in Court Today
A former high school teacher accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student is due back in court.
Wendy Hickman's preliminary hearing is set for today in Pottawatomie County.
The former Bethel High School teacher charged with three felony counts, including second-degree rape, is due in court in just a few hours for her preliminary hearing.
Today, a judge is scheduled to hear testimony to determine if there's sufficient evidence for Wendy Hickman's case to move forward to trial.
Hickman is charged with second-degree rape and forcible sodomy, as well as soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology for text messages allegedly sent to the teen.
If convicted of all counts, Hickman could face up to 45 years in prison.
Hickman, who was beginning her third year as a freshman English teacher last fall, resigned in August.
According to court documents, Hickman was the teenager's English teacher during the 2011-12 school year.
