Flu Season spikes Across Country including Oklahoma
According to the CDC 29 states including Oklahoma are seeing higher than normal cases of flu-like illnesses. 9 other states are reporting moderate levels of the flu. Thousands have gotten sick across the country. 18 children have died. In Oklahoma doctors say now is especially important to get your flu shot as it does not look like flu season has peaked yet. "I have seen people so uncomfortable, they were rocking," Doctor David Jayne in Edmond said. Flu symptoms include body aches and fever, "Some of the most miserable people I've seen, had the flu," Dr. Jayne added. Most cases of the flu are mild but in rare cases especially in young children and the elderly it can be fatal, but everyone is at risk. "It's hard not to be exposed, you'd have to live in a bubble," Dr. Jayne said. It is also important to note that you need to get a new flu shot every year, to protect against new strains of the flu. According to the CDC, it is likely the increased flu activity will
continue for a while. Based on the last 10 flu seasons, flu cases remained at
or above baseline for about 12 weeks.
