CDC: Women getting unneeded Paps post-hysterectomy

NEW YORK (AP) -- Many women don't need to be screened for cervical cancer after a hysterectomy, but a new study says most get the test anyway.
A government survey released Thursday shows about 60 percent of women with hysterectomies recently had a Pap test.
For years, experts have said there's no need to screen women who had a total hysterectomy for reasons other than cancer. A total hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveyed thousands of women ages 30 and older who had a hysterectomy. Those who recently had Pap tests fell from 73 percent in 2000 to 59 percent in 2010.
Experts say some tests may have been warranted, but the others were probably done because Paps have long been part of annual doctor visits.

MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- Parents and guardians of children whose elementary schools were damaged in the deadly tornado that ripped through the Oklahoma City area are hoping for happy reunions.
At least 20 children are among the more than 50 reported dead so far in Moore, an Oklahoma City suburb ravaged Monday afternoon by a tornado with winds up to 200 mph. Officials said early Tuesday the death toll could rise by as many as 40.
Many parents seeking their children gathered at a suburban church, listening intently as someone with a bullhorn called out the names of children who were being dropped off. For many families, the ordeal ended in tears of joy. Others were left to wait in the darkness, hoping for good news while fearing the worst.
