Flipside: The Patti Page Story
We knew her as Clara Ann Fowler, but the world knew her as Patti Page.
Born in Claremore and raised in Tulsa, the top selling female singer in the 50's died on New Year's Eve in California. Her career included 15 gold records and four number one singles.
But thanks to a director and producer at UCO, a new generation of fans is learning about this legendary Oklahoman.
Greg White knew Patty Page better than most. He grew up listening to her music and decided to write a musical tribute after watching a show about another legend- Patsy Cline.
Greg says he sat at the table of friends and mentioned that nobody had more hits than Patti Page. "Everyone kind of looked at each other and said, 'Who is Patti Page?' So I thought, okay, I'm on to something here."
And with that, "Flipside - The Patti Page Story" was born.
Greg cast former UCO students to star in the show and uses 2 actresses to portray Patti.
"An interesting aspect of the show was to look at the public and private side of Patti."
Born in Claremore, Clara Ann Fowler became bigger than life as Patti Page. Greg says Hollywood fell in love because she stayed true to her roots.
"They called her country-politan because she kind of had this cosmopolitan look about her in the 50's , But she always kind of kept that country girl heart."
Audiences today are falling in love, too. Greg took "Flipside" to the Kennedy Center National Theatre Festival where it picked up 18 national awards including best musical. It also just finished a two week run off broadway.
Greg says it's an honor and a privilege to be part of preserving her legacy.
A legacy from the 50's, Page dominated the billboards with 111 hits.
"It's interesting even after the birth of rock and roll, you see the charts. Elvis Presley with 'The Hound Dog' at number 2. Patty Page and 'Allegheny Moon' at number one."
It's a trend she's continuing on stage...even after death.

WikiLeaks case file fight moves to federal court
May 22, 2013 21:59 GMT
By DAVID DISHNEAU Associated Press
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The WikiLeaks organization and a handful of journalists are asking a federal judge in Baltimore to order greater transparency in the court-martial of an Army private who has acknowledged sending reams of classified documents to the WikiLeaks website.
The Center for Constitutional Rights, representing WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court. It seeks an order requiring timely public access to documents in the court-martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning.
Manning's 3-year-old espionage case is headed for trial next month. Many records of the pretrial proceedings remain secret because the military contends the First Amendment doesn't require it to provide prompt public access to court-martial documents.
The military's highest court rejected the transparency case in April and suggested it belonged in civilian court.
