Singer and Oklahoma Native Patti Page Dies
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Patti Page, who made "Tennessee Waltz" the third best-selling recording ever, has died. She was 85. The singer who was born in Claremore and grew up in Tulsa died on New Year's Day in Encinitas, Calif., according to her manager. Page was the top-selling female singer of the 1950s with more than 100 million record sales. She created a distinctive sound for the music industry in 1947 by overdubbing her own voice when she didn't have enough money to hire backup singers for the single, "Confess." Her career included 15 gold records and three gold albums of more than 1 million in sales. She had 24 records in the top 10, including four that reached No. 1. She was also the first singer to have television programs on all three major networks, including "The Patti Page Show" on ABC.

Rogers County holds off on certifying tax election
May 22, 2013 12:30 GMT
CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) -- The Rogers County Election Board has voted to not certify results of a recent sales tax election after a resident filed a complaint alleging the county didn't give proper legal notice of the election.
Voters in Rogers County approved a 1-cent sales tax during a May 14 election. But a resident filed a challenge to the election results, saying the county didn't properly publish a legal notice of the election in a county newspaper before the vote.
The Claremore Daily Progress reports (http://bit.ly/13HOCr8 ) that the election board voted Tuesday to not certify the election results until after a hearing is held next week on the complaint. The hearing is set for May 28 before District Judge Dwayne Steidley.
