Oklahoma Med Flight Helicopter Crash Near Cromwell, Oklahoma
A medical helicopter with four people inside made a crash
landing Wednesday afternoon in Seminole County. Everyone inside survived. The
Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the people inside included three medics and the
pilot.
"This is our land over here," said Sherry Ragsdale.
Sherry Ragsdale's home is surrounded by 60 acres of land
that she and her husband own. Sherry's land is usually filled with cattle. But
on Wednesday, her land got a surprise visitor.
"My husband was in the house, he heard a loud noise,
he thought the helicopter just landed here for some reason," said Sherry.
According to the OHP, the medical helicopter with four
people inside had engine trouble and had to make a crash landing.
"I just heard a loud noise," said Devin Terry.
After the crash, emergency calls started coming in to
Seminole County Dispatch.
911 Operator: "911. What is your emergency?"
Caller: "Hi ma'am. We've got a helicopter that has
crashed out here in our pasture."
Caller: "I can see some people walking around."
The OHP says all four people survived the crash.
"It's kind of shocking," said Devin.
According to the OHP, all four victims were taken to a
local hospital.
"I didn't think you could survive very well in a
helicopter crash," said Devin.
"Just thankful no one died," said Sherry.
Sherry is still surprised the crash was so close to home.
But she's grateful the crash was not worse.
"And thankful it did not land on the house,"
said Sherry.
The OHP says the crash broke the helicopter's landing
gear and its rear rotor. The investigation is now being turned over to the FAA.

May 20, 2013 21:49 GMT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Police in Oklahoma City have issued a request that residents stay away from areas that have sustained tornado damage.
Officials said Monday afternoon that victims remained trapped in wreckage and that emergency crews are trying to reach those areas to conduct search and rescue operations.
The area in Oklahoma City between Southwest 164th and Southwest 134th, and Western Avenue to Santa Fe Avenue is particularly hard hit.
Police say live power lines are down across the area and open gas lines pose a further risk.
