Agencies Prep For Busy New Year's Eve
OKC Green Taxi stays busy year round but come New Year's Day drivers know there is no rest for the weary.
"Last year was a zoo. Just so many people," said Vice-President Quazi Islam.
This year they are expecting even more people.
"We have added more drivers and dispatchers."
OKC Green Taxi isn't the only ones gearing up. First responders at EMSA are ready for the chaos that comes with the holiday.
“We're staffing up for it. We’re injecting 5 to 6 extra
units into the system just to work the Bricktown area for opening night,”said spokesperson Tony McCarty.
McCarty says most of the calls are alcohol related.
“You need to drink in moderation if you will be partaking in
any alcoholic beverage.”
According to AAA of Oklahoma statewide 5 people were killed
in alcohol related collisions last year.
“One is too many,” said spokesperson Danial Karnes.
That’s why AAA is offering free tipsy tow.
“If you’re going to drink, don’t drive call us,” said
Karnes.
AAA will pick you up and tow you and your car home within a
15 mile radius free of charge.
“It’s just not worth getting behind the wheel,” said Karnes.
The number for Tipsy Tow is 1-800-222-4357. The service runs
thru January 2nd.
