Will Rogers World Airport Flight Cancellations & Road Preparations
Will Rogers World Airport announces cancellations for some flights ahead of the Christmas Day winter storm.
Delta Airlines has canceled the following flights:
DL 5424 OKC-ATL 10:20am
DL 4577 OKC-MSP 10:55am
DL 4679 OKC-SLC 2:20pm
DL 3296 OKC-DTW 3:30pm
Delta has waived change fees for the affected flights.
United Airlines is also waiving fees for passengers wanting to change their December 25th flights.
Officials with Will Rogers World Airport encourages travelers to check flight status before going to the airport. They say severe weather in hubs like Denver, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta could impact flights across the country. In addition to flights ODOT spokesperson Mills Gotcher said there are about 550 trucks and 1000 maintenance crews on standby ready to salt and clear roads, "Honestly we have been preparing for anything, just because we don't know what to expect from this storm and how quickly," Gotcher said.
The Turnpike authority also pre-treated all bridges and overpasses. Oklahoma City crews also used a brining solution on roads, they will also start salting as soon as soon as the snow starts falling. "We are going to be ready for whatever comes our way," Gotcher said.
ODOT officials encourage people in Oklahoma to stay home if they can to avoid driving on dangerous roads.

Tornado watch issued for western, central Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A tornado watch is in effect for western and central Oklahoma.
The weather system brought severe thunderstorms to the Altus and Clinton areas, as well as Harper County late Saturday afternoon. There were no reports of rotation as evening approached but the tornado watch lasts until 11 p.m. Saturday.
The dangerous weather is forecast to continue into Sunday night as the system progresses to the east.
The tornado watch area Saturday stretched from eastern edge of the Panhandle to include the Oklahoma City area.
Forecasters warn that the system could also bring large hail.
The National Weather Service in Norman reports tennis ball-size hail along U.S. 62 near the border of Harmon and Jackson counties in the state's far southwest.
