Deadline is set in Oklahoma Youth Expo Lawsuit
A district judge sets a deadline for the state to respond in the Oklahoma Youth Expo suit.
The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of a two million-dollar appropriation of state tax dollars to the private nonprofit livestock show.
The lawsuit alleges that the appropriation of state tax dollars by the department of agriculture, food and forestry to the Oklahoma Youth Expo Livestock show is an inappropriate use of taxpayer money and is unconstitutional.
The district judge told the state it must submit a response by December 28th in this lawsuit filed by Republican Representatives Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City and Mike Ritze of Broken Arrow.
However, Agriculture Secretary Jim Reese has said the appropriation is entirely legal as a public-private partnership to help farmers and ranchers promote agriculture-related endeavors.
