12-12-12 Weddings

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK-- Dozens of couples rush to chapels across
the  metro to tie the knot on December 12, 2012, better known as "12-12-12."

"If we don't do it today, we'd have to wait 100 years to do it again," said Tu Dao, a groom as he prepared for his wedding at the Courthouse Chapel in Downtown Oklahoma City.

Dao and his bride, Vivian Chu are just one of 30 couples who wed at the Courthouse Chapel Wednesday.  The
chapel even took in some couples who walked in last minute hoping to get married on the last repetitious day of the century.  Officials
at the Courthouse Chapel say this is the most weddings they have seen in a single day in 2012, even ousting Valentine's Day.

"12-12-12, you can't forget it," said Justine Elder, a bride who got married at Boulevard Chapel in Edmond.

For Elder, 12-12-12 was the day she always imagined getting married, and her husband, Clint Daily, popped the question to ensure plenty of time to plan a 12-12-12 wedding.

"Twelve is her favorite number," he explained.

Planning a mid-week wedding was not easy for Elder and Daily.  The biggest challenge was securing a venue that could accommodate them on a Wednesday.

"I searched a lot of places," Elder recalls.

When she secured Boulevard Chapel, Elder's dream of a 12-12-12 wedding became a reality.  Officials at Boulevard Chapel say the day as much in demand as 11-11-11 weddings last year.

With no more repetitious days left for the century, officials at both Boulevard and The Courthouse Chapel expect sequential days like 11-12-13, to be popular wedding dates.

Line of storms brings flash floods to OKC area
May 23, 2013 12:50 GMT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The National Weather Service says a slow-moving storm system over central Oklahoma is causing flash flooding.

Forecasters suggested people delay travel in the Oklahoma City area Thursday morning because street closures were expected because of high water.

The area was under a severe thunderstorm warning for a time early Thursday.

The weather service says there is a slight risk severe of thunderstorms into the afternoon in a broad section of western Oklahoma. Hail up to the size of tennis balls and winds of up to 70 miles per hour are possible. There is also a possibility of tornadoes in the risk area.
