Oklahoma Supreme Court Rules in School Voucher Case
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Supreme Court has ruled that two Tulsa-area school districts lack standing to sue to block a school voucher program for students with disabilities.
The state's highest court issued the ruling on Tuesday in the case in which public schools in Jenks and Tulsa countersued the parents of children who sought the scholarship vouchers.
A Tulsa County district judge had agreed with the school districts that the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship Act violated a constitutional prohibition of public money being used for a sectarian institution. But the appellate court ruled the districts did not meet the "threshold standing requirement" for constitutional challenges.
The law allows public money to be used to send children with certain documented disabilities to private schools, including religious schools.

Tornado hits OKC suburb, kicking up debris

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- A tornado kicked up debris in an Oklahoma City suburb and threatened a number of tourist attractions on historic Route 66 before growing into a larger storm that rolled across rural parts of central Oklahoma.
Television footage Sunday showed a tornado at Edmond . The storm threatened a novelty soda-pop store and a historic barn in the small town of Arcadia, then grew into a larger storm as it moved northeastward a few miles north of the Turner Turnpike between Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
The Storm Prediction Center had forecast a moderate risk of severe weather in Oklahoma and adjacent portions of Kansas and Missouri.
TV video also showed power flashes from transformers blowing out as they were hit by high winds or debris.
