Norman Officials Approve Backyard Chickens
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The Norman City Council has approved a plan that allows residents to own up to four chickens in backyard coops.
The Norman Transcript reports http://bit.ly/RUm23X that the plan does not allow roosters and does not allow the outdoor slaughter of chickens.
The chickens must be kept in a designated chicken coop and chicken run. The coop cannot be closer than five feet from property lines and no closer than 25 feet from the neighbor's house.
City attorney Jeff Bryant said neighborhood association covenants would supersede the ordinance if the covenant prohibits chickens.
Supporters of the proposal say they want the chickens as a food source.

Lanes reopening near Shawnee but delays expected
May 20, 2013 12:28 GMT
SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) -- Officials say drivers should expect delays on Interstate 40 in Shawnee as crews continue to clean up storm debris.
Westbound Interstate 40 was closed Sunday night at U.S. 177 after storms ripped through the area. U.S. 177 was also shut down because of vehicle accidents caused by the severe weather.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says northbound U.S. 177 at I-40 was reopened as of 7 a.m. Monday. Westbound traffic on I-40 is narrowed to one lane, but all lanes are expected to reopen later Monday morning.
Officials say drivers should expect congestion in the area or pick an alternate route.
