New Oklahoma Congressmen End Partisan Gridlock in DC
TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma's two newest Republican congressmen say they're optimistic they will be able to work with a Democratic president and Senate to break the partisan gridlock in Washington. Navy pilot Jim Bridenstine and plumbing company owner Markwayne Mullin both won victories Tuesday in a heavily red state that handed Mitt Romney one of his largest vote margins in the country. But with President Barack Obama winning another term and Democrats' control of the U.S. Senate intact, both politicians will have to quickly modify campaign platforms that called for the repeal of the federal Affordable Care Act, among other policies. Mullin, who will represent the 2nd Congressional District, says he'll listen to any idea regardless of which party it comes from so long as it has "America's best interest in mind."

McConnell selected for new Air Force tanker base
May 22, 2013 13:56 GMT
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Wichita's McConnell Air Force Base has been selected to be the main operating base for the Air Force's new KC-46A air refueling tanker.
Members of the Kansas congressional delegation issued a joint statement Wednesday announcing the Air Force decision. The aircraft will replace the aging KC-135 fleet flown by crews for the past 50 years.
According to the delegation, the Air Force will base 36 of the new aircraft at McConnell starting in 2016. It also will be investing $192 million in upgrades to the base.
McConnell was chosen over bases in North Dakota, Oklahoma and Washington.
Forbes Field in Topeka was not selected as a site for the Air National Guard base but the delegation said the Topeka location would not be precluded from future refueling assignments.
