Group Again Asks For Monument At Oklahoma Courthouse
POTEAU, Okla. (AP) -- A veterans group is again asking LeFlore County commissioners to place a Ten Commandments monument on the courthouse lawn. The plan was approved in 2009 -- but was put on hold when a lawsuit challenged a similar monument on the courthouse lawn in neighboring Haskell County. Disabled American Veterans commander Charlie Horsley made the request Monday to commissioners Lance Smith and Ceb Scott. Smith said he wants to discuss potential legal issues with the District Attorney's office. A federal appeals court ruled that the Haskell County monument was an unconstitutional government endorsement of religion and it was moved to the lawn of an American Legion building after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of the ruling.

Obama pledges help after Oklahoma tornado
May 21, 2013 00:05 GMT
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has called Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin to express his concern about a monstrous tornado that wreaked havoc in the Oklahoma City suburbs.
The White House says Obama told the governor that he's directed the government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide any assistance she needs. FEMA has sent a special team to Oklahoma's emergency operations center to help out and dispatch resources.
Obama also told Fallin to contact him directly if the federal government can provide additional help.
The White House says Obama's homeland security team is keeping him updated on the situation.
The tornado flattened entire neighborhoods in the southern suburb of Moore with winds up to 200 mph, leaving buildings on fire and landing a direct blow to an elementary school.
