Oklahoma County Sheriff Office Records Spike In Preventable Garage Burglaries
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office has noticed an increase of garage burglaries in the North West quadrant of Oklahoma County. They tell us that most of the burglaries could have easily been prevented if the victims would have simply secured their garage doors.
They have also seen reports of victims who left their garage door remote controls in their cars with the car unlocked, giving thieves an easy opportunity to grab their remote and open the garage door.
The Sheriff's Office offers a few tips to help keep you from becoming a victim of garage burglaries:
*In the evening always check to make sure you garage is closed.
*Keep your garage closed when you are outside doing yard activities.
*Look out for your neighbors, make sure their garage is secured.
*When using a remote or wall mounted device make sure the garage door is completely closed before leaving.
* If you have a garage door remote in your vehicle keep it out of sight and keep your vehicle locked.
*As an extra measure of security lock your house door where you enter your home from the garage.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office asks all of our citizens to be vigilant and help prevent this crime which in most cases is committed in less than 15 seconds.
