Love's gives $3 million for Okla. tornado relief
May 23, 2013 07:24 GMT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma City-based travel store chain is donating $3 million to disaster relief funds after deadly tornados ripped through parts of Oklahoma.
The donation from Love's Travel Stops comes after a tornado struck the community of Moore on Monday and killed 24 people. Another tornado on Sunday left two people dead in Shawnee.
The first $1 million will go to the OK Strong Relief Fund that Gov. Mary Fallin established to meet the long-term needs of victims in partnership with the United Way of Central Oklahoma.
Another $500,000 will go to Catholic Charities. The remaining $1.5 million will fund a benefit event to honor those affected by the storm.
Love's Travel Stops operates 63 stores in Oklahoma, including several in close proximity to the destruction path.
