Child Abuse Investigation
CHICKASHA, OK-- A day care and one of its employees is under investigation after a one year old broke his arm under their supervision.
Desira Gwin says her son Gunner, suffered a spiral fracture in his arm. She says that type of break is not caused by an accident. "It was caused by some force, he couldn't do it himself, someone did it to hime" says Gwin. It happened at the Wee Care Daycare in Chickasha. The day care is ran by the First Assembly of God. Paul Knight is the senior pastor of he church says this is the first time any accident like this has happened since they opened the day care nine years ago. "There has never been an injury like this in the nine years we've operated this day care" says Knight. Knight says the employee who was supervising the boy has been put on administrative leave. Both Chickasha Police and Oklahoma DHS have launched independent investigations, but say they can't release any deteails until the investigations are complete. Gunner's mom says she noticed a difference after her son was switched into his current class where he broke his arm. "This one certain class I've noticed a change in everything, because he's been crying when I take him to class" says Gwin. However Gwin says she loves the day care, and believes only the employee that was watching her son is to blame. Police are currently reviewing surveillance video to see how Gunner broke his arm. The Grady County District Attorney's office says they have not filed charges against the employee.

School storm protection is spotty in tornado zones
May 22, 2013 21:18 GMT
By DAVID A. LIEB Associated Press
MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- Communities in the tornado-prone Midwest are increasingly building "safe rooms" in public schools. But this week's deadly tornado near Oklahoma City highlights how storm protection in the nation's schools is inconsistent.
Plaza Towers Elementary School, where seven students were killed, did not have a safe room. Several other schools in the area did.
In response to the tornado, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has announced the creation of a state fund to accept donations for the construction of safe rooms. And a state lawmaker proposed a $500 million bond issue to help finance storm shelters.
The rooms are expensive, costing up to $1 million, depending on size. Oklahoma has already distributed federal grants for safe rooms to more than 100 schools. But most schools still lack them.
