2 Oklahoma Lawmakers File Abortion law Appeal Brief

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Two Oklahoma lawmakers have filed a friend-of-the-court brief defending a state law regulating abortion-inducing drugs that was struck down as unconstitutional.
State Reps. Pam Peterson of Tulsa and Rebecca Hamilton of Oklahoma City filed the document Tuesday in the state Supreme Court, where the ruling that struck down the law was appealed.
The law was passed by the Legislature in May 2011. It required doctors to follow strict guidelines authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and prohibited off-label uses of drugs such as RU-486.
It also prohibited changing a recommended dosage or prescribing it for different symptoms than the drug was initially approved for.
Peterson and Hamilton say they believe the law is a reasonable way to ensure the health and safety of women seeking chemical abortions.

Line of storms brings flash floods to OKC area
May 23, 2013 16:38 GMT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Storms that lingered over the Oklahoma City area have brought flooding to several areas.

A number of roads in the metro area had to be closed Thursday morning due to high water. Cars and people were stranded in places and the National Weather Service recommended residents delay traveling until the waters recede.

As the noon hour approached, a flash flood warning was in effect for Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Kingfisher, Logan, McClain and Oklahoma counties.

In Oklahoma City, officials say SW 104th between Rockwell and Meridian was washed out and a sinkhole formed on Rockwell between SW 74 and SW 89th.

Flooding also affected the Interstate 240 Service Road at South Western.
