Obama, Romney: Rivals with little personal history

By JULIE PACE
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- When Mitt Romney's wife, Ann, was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2008, one of the people who reached out to the couple was newly elected President Barack Obama.
The call was one of the few personal interactions between Obama and Romney.
Even as their political fates have become more entwined, Obama and Romney have had little opportunity to connect directly.
When the political rivals stand alongside each other during Wednesday night's debate in Denver, it will be their first face-to-face meeting in nearly five years.
They have offered kind words about each other in their roles as father and family man.
But most of their descriptions during the campaign have been far less complimentary, and that may be the case in the debate, too.

Okla. House gives final approval to tornado relief
May 23, 2013 16:07 GMT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma House has given final approval to legislation that dips into the state's constitutional reserve fund to help central Oklahoma communities impacted by devastating tornadoes.

Without debate, the House voted 95-0 Thursday for the measure that appropriates $45 million from the state's Rainy Day Fund for tornado relief. The bill passed the Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 45-0.

The reserve funds will be deposited into the State Emergency Fund and used by the Oklahoma Office of Emergency Management to aid in recovery efforts, including infrastructure repairs. Officials say the money will be used to match federal money made available to affected communities.

A massive tornado struck the city of Moore on Monday, killing at least 24 people. A separate tornado on Sunday left two dead in Shawnee.
