Pit Bull Attack Victim Wants Law

Oklahoma City Police continue to look into what caused a dog to attack and kill a woman in her own apartment Wednesday night. Police say Nellie Davis died after her granddaughter's pit bull broke out of its kennel and attack her. Investigators believe a thunderstorm that night set the dog off.

Now another victim of a pit bull attack is coming forward to share his story. He hopes his story helps change state law.

Cecil Elliott says he was attacked by a pit bull two years ago. Elliott says the dog attacked while he was walking through his neighborhood. When Elliott heard about how Nellie Davis died from a dog attack, he says it brought back memories of his experience. Now he wants to make sure it never happens again. Eliott thinks pit bull owners should have a special license to own one and he believes there should be tougher punishments for people who let their pit bulls run loose.

"I think that you have a right to own a pit bull dog," said Elliott. "I'm not saying that you don't, but the dog has a propensity to be more aggressive by nature."

"To outlaw them I think is just absurd," said Rod Goodhue.

Rod Goodhue runs Pit Bull Rescue Oklahoma. Goodhue is shocked and saddened about Wednesday's dog attack. He also thinks it gives pit bulls a bad reputation.

"It just breaks my heart. I mean, on the level that someone lost their life and the idea that we've got a black eye," said Goodhue.

Goodhue says pit bulls are not naturally aggressive towards humans.

"The idea that they're just bad is wrong," said Goodhue. "We can't just blame the breed and have a knee jerk reaction and want to euthanize or ban a breed."

At one point Midwest City banned pit bulls, but that ordinance was reversed because it was declared unconstitutional. Now pit bulls are allowed in Midwest City.

Tornado watch issued for western, central Oklahoma
May 18, 2013 22:57 GMT

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A tornado watch is in effect for western and central Oklahoma.

The weather system brought severe thunderstorms to the Altus and Clinton areas, as well as Harper County late Saturday afternoon. There were no reports of rotation as evening approached but the tornado watch lasts until 11 p.m. Saturday.

The dangerous weather is forecast to continue into Sunday night as the system progresses to the east.

The tornado watch area Saturday stretched from eastern edge of the Panhandle to include the Oklahoma City area.

Forecasters warn that the system could also bring large hail.

The National Weather Service in Norman reports tennis ball-size hail along U.S. 62 near the border of Harmon and Jackson counties in the state's far southwest.
