Students Back At School After Stillwater Jr High Suicide
Students return to classes after 13-year-old Cade Poulos commits suicide in the hallway.
"It's a day to remember him and try to remember him when he was happy," said eighth grader, Kadie Sorenson.
Students say it is a somber day at Stillwater Jr. High. Something they are not used to.
" It used to be like people would tease people and mess around but today it's more serious," said Kadie.
Stillwater Public Schools Superintendant, Dr. Ann Craine, says of the nearly 800 students only 70 are absent today. Dr. Craine says the day started by teachers talking about what happened and answering questions students had.
"We're not pushing curriculum today. Today is about starting the healing process," she said.
The school brought in extra counselors from outside agencies to help students grieve.
"As students are needing to talk to a counselor they're getting a pass to do that and go to a special area and talk about their concerns."
Students wore green to school today. Cade's favorite color.
"It's just a big respect to him," said Kadie.
