German POW Returns To Oklahoma
A German soldier, Frank Mays was captured in World War II. Frank was taken to Cam Gruber where he was held for nearly a year.
"He thought there would be some punishment routine or some horrible thing going on here but he was amazed that they were treated so nicely," said Patricia Powers-Simonelli, Frank's niece.
Frank was worried he would be captured by Russians which he knew was a death sentence so being on Sooner soil was a relief to him.
"I had to work, that's ok. We came back again we had our food and we had our rest, the we had sports," he said.
Frank was held at Camp Gruber for more than a year. He says the treatment he received was more than he could ever ask for. So on his 90th birthday Frank knew it was time to come back.
"He was practically crying because he felt so nostalgic," Patricia said.
Frank toured the camp where he was held for more than a year. He said over the past 7 decades things were very different but he did find a ditch he had help build.
Frank said he could not ask for more out of his visit. He will always remember his time as a POW but importantly will remeber the kindess he was given.

May 24, 2013 17:29 GMT
MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- Public agencies in Moore have opened streets to residents and resumed mail delivery to as many addresses as possible.
At a news conference Friday, police said residents in the hardest-hit areas can go back into their neighborhoods without having to deal with police checkpoints. Some road closures may still occur as utility crews work to restore service.
Moore's postmaster said 85 percent of mail delivered from the Moore station is being delivered, and that mail deliveries from the Santa Fe station are up to 95 percent.
For those whose mail is not being delivered, those with ZIP codes 73153 and 73160 can pick up mail at the Airport Finance unit on Air Cargo Road.
Those in ZIP code 73170 can go to the Santa Fe station for their mail.
