Hearing Set for Okla. Man in Dismemberment Death
PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (AP) -- A hearing has been scheduled for a man accused of killing and dismembering his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
The proceeding for Justin Hammer is set for Friday before Garvin County Special Judge Trisha Misak.
Hammer has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the Aug. 7 death of 32-year-old Brandon Duran.
Court documents indicate Hammer told authorities he shot Duran after Duran forced his way into his home and threatened him. Hammer says he then panicked and cut up the body, which was placed in cement-filled buckets and thrown into a pond on his property in Elmore City.
The victim's remains were recovered on Aug. 10.
Hammer's defense attorney, Irven Box, says Hammer claims that he acted in self-defense.
Garvin County jail records indicate Hammer is being held without bond.
