Acrylic Windows Could Protect Oklahoma Capitol Art
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Customized acrylic storm windows similar to those used on U.S. space shuttles could help reduce harmful sunlight coming through Capitol dome windows and harming priceless artwork. State Capitol Preservation Commission members were told Thursday the windows would have the added benefit of reducing summertime heat in the rotunda. The Capitol architect and curator Duane Mass said the acrylic windows would be attached to each of the dome's 16 windows. Mass says the windows would cost a fraction of the expense of installing a screen material, or scrims, to the dome. Commissioners considered installing a motorized scrim on each window. He says an acrylic window to cover each of vertical dome windows would cost about $1,000. Mass says installing motorized scrims could be as much as $250,000.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Graduating high schoolers say they don't want to move away from Moore after a tornado devastated a section of their town.
Westmoore High School Senior Alex Davis says staying close is a way to show "that a disaster can't beat us."
And senior Cameron Knight says if he had a choice to live anywhere in the country, he'd still pick his hometown.
Westmoore was the first of three schools to hold commencement ceremonies Saturday at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City
The Oklahoma City suburb was hit by a strong tornado Monday; 24 people died and hundreds were injured.
The Moore School District canceled its school year after the tornado hit the Plaza Towers and Briarwood elementary schools, but wants graduation ceremonies to go on.
