Kids Cholesterol Levels Dropping For First Time In 20 Years
CDC study: Cholesterol levels in kids are dropping for first time in 20 years
ATLANTA (AP) -- Finally some good news about cholesterol and kids: A big government study shows that in the last decade, the proportion of children who have high cholesterol has fallen.
Some experts were a little surprised by the new study's results. High cholesterol is often linked to obesity, and the childhood obesity rate hasn't budged.
But they have a theory: The cholesterol-raising trans fat content of many foods has declined in the last decade, and that may have been the cause.
The study by government researchers was released online Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Oklahoma emergency operations center to close
May 23, 2013 00:01 GMT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management says an emergency operations center that opened after a massive tornado hit Moore is closing.
ODEM spokeswoman Keli Cain says the center will close at midnight Wednesday.
The center opened to help coordinate the state and federal response after the tornado hit Moore Monday afternoon and killed 24 people -- including 10 children. Seven of the children were pulled from the rubble of the Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore.
Officials say more than 300 people were injured and an estimated 350 people are staying at American Cross shelters.
Oklahoma Insurance Department officials estimate damages at up to $2 billion.
