Governor Assesses Damage
Governor Mary Fallin walked the streets of Luther Saturday, assessing the damage to homes burned in a wildfire. More than 2,600 acres burned since it started Friday afternoon, destroying 56 houses and other buildings.
"Its certainly been a very tough couple of days for Luther and its going to continue to be a very tough couple of days as we move forward," Gov. Fallin said. "And as we continue to move along, we're going to find what the needs are of this community. It's still very, very early and we're not through with the danger in this community."
Crews worked all day on Saturday to keep the fire under control.
Authorities are looking for a possible arsonist in connection to the fire in Luther. Witnesses reported seeing a man throwing flaming newspapers from his truck window. That man has not been caught.
More than 52,000 acres have burned in fires across the state since yesterday, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management reported.
A state-wide burn ban has been activated for Oklahoma.
