Oklahoma Revenue Is Up

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma's state treasurer says revenue collections were up last month, thanks to increases in income and sales tax receipts. Treasurer Ken Miller said Thursday total revenue collections by the state in July were aided by a double-digit jump in income tax collections. But Miller says overall collections were hampered by declines in revenue from oil and gas production. Miller says revenue collections increased more than 1 percent from collections in July 2011. Average revenue growth over the past year is more than 7 percent, including an almost 11 percent increase in income tax collections and almost 9 percent growth in sales tax collections. Miller says revenue from oil and gas production was down last month more than 43 percent, the eighth consecutive monthly decline in gross production tax collections.Oklahoma Revenue Is Up

Obama opposes GOP bill on Keystone XL oil pipeline
May 21, 2013 19:49 GMT

By MATTHEW DALY Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Barack Obama opposes a House bill that would speed approval of the proposed Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas.

The White House said Tuesday that the bill "seeks to circumvent longstanding and proven processes" by removing a requirement for a presidential permit. The legislation also says no new environmental studies are needed.

House Republicans say the bill is needed to ensure the long-delayed pipeline is built. The project, which first was proposed in 2008, would carry oil extracted from tar sands in western Canada to refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Opponents say the pipeline would carry "dirty oil" that could trigger global warming, while supporters say it would create jobs and bolster North American energy resources.

A House vote is expected Wednesday.
