Earthquakes Shake Midwest City
The Oklahoma Geological Survey has confirmed an earthquake shook Midwest City Thursday morning.
FOX 25 viewers reported they felt the quake around 11:00 a.m. Thursday near 10th and Air Depot in Midwest City.
Austin Holland with the Oklahoma Geological Survey says the quake was a 3.4 magnitude earthquake. He tells FOX 25 while that's big for this area, it's a fairly small earthquake and there is likely not any damage.
The United State Geological Survey reported the earthquake was a 3.0 magnitude. A second one was reported by viewers just 30 minutes later.
FOX 25 viewers asked why the two reported different data. Holland tells FOX 25 the Oklahoma Geological Survey uses more than 10 stations in the Oklahoma City area alone. By comparison, USGS has four stations in the entire state.
The OKGS is still working to pinpoint the exact location.
Holland says the quake was felt in the immediate area but likely not in surrounding areas.
