Jesse Jackson Arrives to Support Family of Man who Died in Police Custody
Family and friends are gathering Tuesday to march to find the truth about a man who died in police custody, and an internationally known activist is lending a hand.
Jesse Jackson will join Rob Howard's family in a march downtown Tuesday.
Howard died in June 2012 while in police custody. The Medical Examiner's office says Howard died of pneumonia, brought on by blunt trauma to the chest.
In June 2012, police officers say there was a brief chase when Robin Howard refused to pull over. He then got out of the car and again, tried to flee. When police caught up to him, they told family members they used "necessary force" because Howard would not listen to their commands. In October, they were told an officer used what's called a "knee-strike" to the back.
In November, the family's attorney, David Slane, told FOX 25 that the FBI has been investigating the case. Oklahoma City Police are still conducting their own internal investigation on the officers involved in Howard's death, but District Attorney David Prater says the officers involved will not be facing any charges.
Four Oklahoma City officers are involved in the case, and have been placed on restrictive duty.
The march is scheduled for noon and participants will march from police headquarters to city hall.

Teen in devastated Okla. town handing out hugs
May 25, 2013 02:26 GMT
MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- The people of the Oklahoma town where a deadly tornado struck could use just about everything -- cleaning supplies, food, water, shelter.
Thirteen-year-old Halle Carr thought residents of her hometown could also use a hug after the twister Monday that killed 24 people in Moore.
Halle has been standing on a corner with a white sign that reads: "Need a hug? I am here!" And people are taking her up on the offer.
On Friday, people in work trucks, cars and vans loaded with belongings rolled down their windows and reached out their arms to the girl. Some shouted words of encouragement.
Halle said it makes her feel good to spread a little cheer. She said she'll come out every day, as long as she thinks she's needed.
