Enid Snow & Water Woes

The city of Enid is still dealing with about 3000 homes without power Wednesday and now it has a new problem, the water supply.

"Our big concern right now is making sure we have enough water for our community," Steve Kime with the city of Enid said.

Mondays snowstorm knocked out power to nearly 95% of the town, more than 20 thousand customers, it also killed power to the towns waterlines that pump water into the town. Usually they have about 70, but right now they are using generators to power 15. The big issue is water pressure. "It's not a real supply problem, it's getting the water here," Kime said.

Some of the water lines go to wells 50 miles outside the city and some of those areas are under more than a foot of snow, "We would really like to thank OG&E and the people of Enid," Kime said.

Power is expected to be back to normal by Friday. Kime says the city has about 9 million gallons in storage which can last the city about 4 days.Enid Snow & Water Woes

Teen in devastated Okla. town handing out hugs
May 25, 2013 02:26 GMT

MOORE, Okla. (AP) -- The people of the Oklahoma town where a deadly tornado struck could use just about everything -- cleaning supplies, food, water, shelter.

Thirteen-year-old Halle Carr thought residents of her hometown could also use a hug after the twister Monday that killed 24 people in Moore.

Halle has been standing on a corner with a white sign that reads: "Need a hug? I am here!" And people are taking her up on the offer.

On Friday, people in work trucks, cars and vans loaded with belongings rolled down their windows and reached out their arms to the girl. Some shouted words of encouragement.

Halle said it makes her feel good to spread a little cheer. She said she'll come out every day, as long as she thinks she's needed.
