Pottawatomie Co. Deadly Shooting Investigation
A man dies after a burglary at his home and a shooting, the Pottawatomie County undersheriff said.
Monday morning, someone called authorities to report a man crashed into the gate of his home in the 29900 block of New Hope. Undersheriff J.T. Palmer said Albert Rider, 52, was looking for help.
"He drove to this residence, which is the first driveway that he came to," Palmer said.
Evidence shows Rider had been shot in the chest during a confrontation about three-quarters of a mile up the road. He was taken to OU Medical Center where he died.
Rider's home in Cleveland County was robbed earlier, Palmer said. Officials have still not determined if the burglar is the suspect in the shootin. They are also trying to figure out if Palmer was shot while trying to track the burglar down.
"He went in [to Country Boy Market] this morning and made a statement. He was wanting to know if anybody had bought anything using a large amount of change; that his house had been broken into," Palmer said.
The Cleveland County Sheriffs office is investigating the burglary at Rider's home and assisting with the shooting investigation . The OSBI is also helping.
Palmer said there were no suspects in either crime.
