Police: Two Driving with Cocaine & Alcohol with Child in Car Arrested
Two people are in custody after police find them driving with cocaine and brandy in the car with a child.
Police pulled over Wayne Harris and Nika Watkins on January 23rd for not having a license plate light. Police say Harris and Watkins had a 2-year-old girl in the car with them.
When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver, Harris, drove very slowly and even stopped at a red light at NW 10th and Virginia Ave. before pulling into a gas station.
Harris told officers he did not have a drivers license. After police searched his name, his license turned up suspended. He was initially arrested for driving under suspension.
As police were searching the vehicle, they found an open baggie containing white powder thought to be cocaine next to the front passenger seat, which was where Nika Watkins had been sitting. Police found several other baggies throughout the car, though they did not contain any narcotics.
Police say they also found a small, open, bottle of brandy between the passenger seat and passenger side door.
The child's mother was called to pick up the girl. Harris and Watkins were both arrested.
Harris was charged with transporting an open container, illegal or defective light, and driving under suspension.
Because the young girl was in the seat behind Watkins, she was charged with possession of a controlled drug in the presence of a child.

Judge orders Okla. pastor to trial on murder count
May 25, 2013 19:32 GMT
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A judge says the pastor of an Oklahoma City church must stand trial in the shooting death of his son-in-law.
Fifty-three-year old Michael Elder is charged in the death of 27-year-old Gary Davidson last February. Davidson was married to Elder's daughter.
The Oklahoman reports (http://bit.ly/16Wg62Z ) that Judge Ray C. Elliott on Friday ordered Elder to stand trial after Davidson's wife and girlfriend each told different stories. April Davidson said she feared for her life while fighting with Davidson in the front seat of a pickup truck. Judith Chism said Davidson was trying to exit the truck from a rear seat when he was shot.
Defense lawyers have argued Davidson fired the gun in self-defense.
Elder is senior pastor at The Cross Baptist Church. He was being held without bail.
