Most news teams just scratch the surface, but Fox 25 Special Reports go beyond the headlines to give you the whole story.

Craigslist Home Sale Scams

In a special report, Fox 25 discovered a home scam happening in several neighborhoods in Oklahoma City. Con artists are using the online website, Craigslist, to convince potential renters to wire money for a deposit on a home. The catch is scammers do not have authorization to lease the homes. Instead, they tell potential renters to drive by the house and if they like it mail the money.
Bob Manista with the Better Business Bureau says, "you should never wire money for anything online." President Doug Emde with the Oklahoma Association of Realtors suggest meeting the landlord in person. Emde says, "the scammers will often use pictures and information found on www.Realtors.com and set up a fake e-mail account using the realtors name." The website, Craigslist, has disclaimers protecting the company from having any liability in the scam.
