Attorney questions lack of plea deal for Ark. mom
VAN BUREN, Ark. (AP) -- A defense attorney for an Arkansas woman whose 1-year-old was shot during an apparent robbery is asking prosecutors to dismiss the case.
Heather Ann Jones is charged with first-degree murder in the 2010 death of her daughter, Elaine Keene. Authorities say Elaine was in her car seat when Jones drove her and two men to Devin Jeremiah's home to allegedly rob him. Jeremiah opened fire and the bullet struck Elaine. She died two days later at a hospital.
Jones' attorney, Monte Johnson, says his client hasn't received a plea offer yet even though the other defendants in the case had. Prosecutor John David Luton declined to comment.
Jones tells the Southwest Times Record (http://is.gd/F86hZD ) that Jones didn't know the men planned a robbery and that the charges should be dismissed.
