    The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Detroit Pistons 112-111 to secure the second seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. It wasn't a pretty game for the Thunder but the bottom line is they got the win with Kevin Durant scoring a layup with :16 seconds left to give OKC the final victory margin.

    Sooners losing a guard

    Oklahoma guard Je'Lon Hornbeak is transferring to another school. Hornbeak played in 61 games his first two season's at Oklahoma and he started 29 as a freshmen. He suffered a foot injury at the beginning of this season and got off to a slow start but his play improved toward the end of the season and he became a key reserve off the bench.

    The Oklahoma City Thunder were beaten by the New Orleans Pelicans 101-89 at Smoothie King Arena. The loss kept the Thunder from clinching the second seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.

    Tyreke Evans poured in 41 points to lead the Pelicans, who had lost ten straight games to the Thunder. Oklahoma City was led by Serge Ibaka, who scored 22 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out five assists. Kevin Durant added 25 points in a losing effort.

    As Oklahoma winds down spring practice its evident that they expect their defense to be pretty good. A year ago the Sooners defensive line was considered a question mark during spring workouts but today head coach Bob Stoops considers it a strength with experience and depth.

    Defensive end Geneo Grissom, a star in the Sugar Bowl, is getting time at linebacker while linebacker Eric Striker is getting work at safety.

    Eddie Sutton misses out on Hall vote

    Eddie Sutton has come up for inclusion to the Basketball Hall of Fame four times. And four times he has been denied the vote. Monday was the latest snub that the former college coach at Creighton, Arkansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma State has had to endure.

    Among those receiving the vote are Nolan Richardson, who like Sutton counts Arkansas as one of his coaching stops.

    Garman is out

    Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy confirmed at the Cowboys Orange Blitz that quarterback Daxx Garman did suffer an injury at Friday's practice but he did not say how bad the injury is. Gundy says they'll know more about the injury Monday. Several reports say Garman had to be carted off the field after suffering a knee injury.

    Thunder come up short

    After completing a four game season sweep of San Antonio Thursday, the Oklahoma City Thunder attempted to hand Houston its fourth straight loss Friday. But it was not to be as the Rockets beat the Thunder 111-107.

    James Harden led Houston with 39 points as Houston got its 50th win against 25 loses. Oklahoma City was led by Kevin Durant's 28 points. Durant extended his 25 or more points streak to 40.

    Cowboys take Bedlam Baseball

    It doesn't count in the standings but its Bedlam so it matters. Oklahoma State beat Oklahoma 3-1 in a non conference baseball game. The game does not count in the conference standings but it counts in the bragging rights department.

    The Cowboys took the lead in the second inning on two solo home runs. The first by Gage Green and the second was hit by Tim Arakawa.

    Mavs win a shootout

    The Dallas Mavericks won a scoring fest over the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-119 in overtime. The teams combined to hit 27 three point shots with Dallas nailing 15 and Oklahoma City 12. The big point producers were the usual suspects. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 43 points while Russell Westbrook returned after a one game absence to score 23 points and pass out eight assists.

    Thunder win 4th in a row

    The Oklahoma City Thunder won their fourth game in row. They beat the Denver Nuggets 117-96. Russell Westbrook once again not playing on the front end of a back to back but Reggie Jackson did a great job in his place. Jackson scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists.

    Kevin Durant led the way with 27 points and eight assists. Oklahoma City will play at Dallas Tuesday night.

    Sooners season ends

    The Oklahoma women's basketball season came to an end with a 104-100 loss to DePaul in their NCAA Tournament opener. It was the highest scoring game in NCAA Tournament history.

    Oklahoma trailed by 16 points at the half but made a rally in the second half. Senior guard Aaryn Ellenberg finished off his Sooner career by scoring 36 points. Ellenberg connected on seven three pointers. The two teams combined to hit 23 three point shots.

    Cowgirls move on

    The OSU Cowgirls are carrying the state banner when it comes to the NCAA Basketball Tournament. After watching all the men's teams lose, the Cowgirls beat Florida Gulf Coast in overtime 61-60.

    Tiffany Bias scored a layup with 41 seconds left in the extra period to provide the winning points. Up until that moment she was 0-8 from the field but she scored when it mattered most.

    Westbrook OK

    Reports are Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook did not seriously hurt his right knee in Friday night's win at Toronto. Westbrook and Raptors guard Kyle Lowery banged knees in the first half of the game. Westbrook left the game and did not return. But indications are that Westbrook did not suffer any serious damage and should not miss any action.

    Cowboys season is done

    The Oklahoma State Cowboys lost to Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament 85-77 to end their basketball season. The Cowboys never led in the game and shot just 40 percent for the game.

    Foul trouble plagued both teams as a total of 61 fouls were called with five players fouling out including OSU's LeBryan Nash, Kamari Murphy and Leyton Hammonds.

    Durant has big night in win

    It was a good news bad news night for the Oklahoma City Thunder in their 119-118 double overtime win over the Toronto Raptors. The bad news occurred in the first half when Thunder guard Russell Westbrook banged  knees with Raptor's guard Kyle Lowery. Westbrook, who has missed big portions of the season due to knee problems, had to leave the game and did not return. The team is calling it a knee sprain. No word on if he'll miss game action or how long he could be out.

    Thunder beat the Cavs

    The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-95 behind the 35 point 11 rebound effort from Kevin Durant. Russell Westbrook did not play as the Thunder stuck with their plan to not play Westbrook in back to back games. Oklahoma City will play at Toronto Friday night.

    Reggie Jackson scored 13 points and dished out six assists in place of Westbrook. The Thunder also got good production from their bench by scoring 30 points.

    The Oklahoma Sooners season came to an end Thursday night with a 80-75 overtime loss to North Dakota State. The Sooners trailed most of the game as the Bison shot 53 percent for the game.

    Oklahoma only hit 34 percent of their shots. They end the year at 23-10.

    Kevin Durant continues to work on first MVP Award

    Most people who follow the NBA have Kevin Durant #1 and Lebron James #2 when it comes to the MVP race. After a fast start coming out of the All Star Break that featured a 61 point game Lebron James has cooled a bit. Meanwhile Kevin Durant has continued with consistent steller play.

    That play includes a current run of 32 straight games where he's scored at least 25 points in a game.

    Sherri Coale and the Sooners are headed to the Tournament

    Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale kept insisting that her team would be in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. An 18-14 season and failing to win the Big 12 Conference as many predicted were seen as problems by some but not by the selection committee.

    The Sooners were selected for the tournament as a 10th seed. They will play DePaul Saturday at 12:30 on ESPN2. The game will be in Durham, North Carolina.

    Cowgirls ready to Dance

    The Oklahoma State Cowgirls are going to West Lafayette, Indiana to play Florida Gulf Coast in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The game is Friday afternoon at 12:30 Oklahoma time and it will be broadcast on ESPN2.

    Cowgirls head coach Jim Littell feels his squad is well rested for the tournament.

    OSU Cowboys headed West

    The Oklahoma State Cowboy basketball team is headed to San Diego to play Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament.  The game will tipoff at 3:40 Oklahoma time.  It's possible that the Cowboys could meet Oklahoma in the Sweet 16.

    David Stockton, son of NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton, along with Kevin Pangos leads a talented guard tandem with 6-9 Sam Dower Jr anchoring the inside for Gonzaga.

    Sooners to Spokane

    The Oklahoma men's basketball team received a five seed and will play North Dakota State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will tip at 6:27 Oklahoma time and will be played in Spokane, Washington.

    "I think it's good. I'll be able to show everyone where to eat," is the way Sooner forward Ryan Spangler greeted the news. Spangler spent a season in Spokane as a member of the Gonzaga basketball team before transferring to Oklahoma.

    The Oklahoma City Thunder stopped a two game losing streak and they did it with defense. After giving up an average of 116 points per game in their last two loses, the Thunder beat the Houston Rockets 106-98.

    Kevin Durant lad the way with 42 points while Russell Westbrook added 24 points, seven assists and four steals.

    Defense the big focus in Thunder practice

    No big surprise the Oklahoma City Thunder spent most of Monday's practice working on defense. The team spent about 45 minutes to an hour working on the court then went to watch film the rest of the practice that lasted well over two hours.

    The Thunder's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday continued a trend of giving up points in bunches. Lakers guard Jodie Meeks scored a career high 42 points to lead the Lakers with 20 of those points coming in the third quarter.

    Suns win scoring fest over Thunder

    The Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns engaged in a scoring fest at U.S. Airways Arena in Phoenix. If you're a Thunder fan you may have enjoyed the action but you hated the result as the Suns won the game 128-122.

    The loss overshadowed a great effort by Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant. Westbrook scored 36 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Durant was next with 34 points and 7 assists.

    The Oklahoma City Thunder handed the Philadelphia 76ers their 15th straight loss 125-92. Russell Westbrook set a franchise record with eight assists in the first quarter, which was an indication of the kind night he would have.

    Westbrook played just 21 minutes but put together a triple double. He scored 13 points, dished out 14 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with three steals.

    It wasn't that long ago that the Oklahoma State Cowboy basketball team was in the midst of a seven game losing streak. Fast forward to Marcus Smart returning from a three game suspension and the Cowboys have won four in row. The latest win was Monday night's 77-61 win over Kansas State.

    Smart was good with 18 points six rebounds and five assists while Phil Forte led everyone with 23 points.

    The Oklahoma State Cowboys beat the Kansas Jayhawks 72-65 to give their NCAA Tournament hopes a nice boost. Marcus Smart and Markel Brown each scored 21 points with Smart scoring 20 of his points in the second half. LeBryan Nash added 16 for the Cowboys, who improved to 19-10 overall and 7-9 in the Big 12. The Cowboys get another chance to impress the Selection Committee Monday night when Kansas State comes to Stillwater for an 8:00 game. More>>

    Oklahoma completed a two game sweep of the Texas Longhorns in men's basketball with a 77-65 win in Norman. The win moved Oklahoma into a four way tie for second place in the Big 12. The Sooners are 10-6 in the league along with Iowa State, Kansas State and Texas.

    The game was a contrast of the Sooners speed and skill vs the Longhorns size.

    The headline says it all. There has been no "D" as in defense in Oklahoma City's game since they returned from the All Star Break. Not only are they 0-3 during that time but they've given up an average of 114 points per game.

    In their loss to the Los Angeles Clippers they gave up 44 points in the fourth quarter. In their loss to Cleveland they gave up 42 points in the final frame.

    Thunder lose again

    For the first time this season the Oklahoma City Thunder have lost three games in a row. Cleveland handed OKC their latest loss 114-104 Wednesday night. It was the first game since the Thunder announced that center Kendrick Perkins would miss the next six weeks after groin surgery.

    Cleveland scored 42 points in the fourth quarter. The Thunder also had 19 turnovers in the game.

    Liggins back in the League

    Former Oklahoma City Thunder guard DeAndre Liggins is back in the NBA. The Miami Heat signed Liggins to a ten day contract on Tuesday.

    Liggins was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder but was released in September after he was charged with domestic abuse in the presence of a minor. He has been playing for Sioux Falls, which is the Miami Heat's D-League team.

    The Oklahoma State Cowboys won their second game in a row Monday night in Fort Worth. THe Cowboys beat TCU 76-54 behind Phil Forte's 23 points. Forte hit five three pointers in the game with four of them in the first half.

    Marcus Smart had to wear jersey number 43 instead of his usual number 33 because the equipment staff forgot to pack his regular jersey. Smart turned in a strong game with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

    Sooners come up short

    The Oklahoma Sooners put up a good fight but after 40 minutes of action the Sooners were on the losing end of an 83-75 game with Kansas. The Sooners, who were trying to win in Lawrence for the first time since 1993, got solid games from Cam Clark and Buddy Hield. Clark had 18 points while Hield added 16.

    The win gives the Jayhawks their 10th straight regular season Big 12 title.

    Oklahoma beat Kansas State in men's basketball 86-73 to improve to 9-5 in the Big 12 Conference. All five starters were in double figure scoring with Buddy Hield leading the way with 18 points. Isaiah Cousins was next with 17 points.

    OU used a 21-2 run in the first half to take control of the game, that they led by 19 points at halftime. The lead grew to as many 27 in the second half as Oklahoma improved to 20-7 on the season.

    Cowboys stop skid

    The Oklahoma State Cowboys stopped their losing streak at seven games with a 84-62 win over Texas Tech. Marcus Smart played in his first game after serving a three game suspension for shoving a Red Raider fan in the Cowboys loss in Lubbock.

    Smart scored 16 points to go with six steals and 10 assists. He was aided by LeBryan Nash who had 21 points and Phil Forte's 20.

    The Cowboys next game is at TCU Monday night at 6:00.

    Russell Westbrook getting closer to return

    The Oklahoma City Thunder should be getting star guard Russell Westbrook back sooner rather than later. Whether that is by Thursday's marquee matchup with Miami remains to be seen.

    Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said Westbrook practiced Wednesday but would not say he would definitely play against the Heat. Brooks said they'll see how Westbrook feels Thursday to determine whether or not he plays.   Brooks added that he liked what he saw from Westbrook.

    OSU football fans looking forward to a Spring Game to wrap up spring practice will be disappointed. OSU will not have a spring game. They will have an open practice on April 5th that will last 90 minutes.

    THe workout will have the usual position drills, one on one drills and other aspects of a Normal workout. Afterwards fans can come down on the field and meet with players and coaches.
